'Coolman' Novel Series is a Love Letter to '80s Action Films

 

Action movies in the '80s were known for their over-the-top action sequences, larger-than-life heroes, and iconic villains. These movies were popular because they offered audiences a chance to escape from their everyday lives and experience the thrill of danger and excitement. Stars like Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis became household names thanks to movie franchises like Rambo, Missing in Action, The Terminator, and Die Hard that began in the '80s.

The spirit of those movies lives on, not necessarily in modern film, but in a series of novels starring a new hero, Coolman! Paying homage to the '80s action genre, these books are filled with all the action and absurdity you'd expect plus plenty of '80s references. But don't just take my word for it, watch the trailer...

The author of the Coolman series is Sam Guydude (I can't make this stuff up!) who has penned 4 books so far and is still writing. Here is a little more about him:

I love things from the ‘80s. Or rather: I love what the ‘80s do to me. I grew up in the ‘80s, before the internet and mobile phones, but just when video games became popular. I played arcade games at the local diner – especially Robocop. I was always with my friends. We watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and consumed oceans of chewing gum to collect all the stickers. I still have the first 50 stickers in the series, and they smell exactly as they did back then. Of childhood. Of nostalgia.

So, it was evident that I had to create a book series at some point. I have a master’s degree in Languages and Literature, and I have written stories all my life. I’ve come close to getting two fiction works traditionally published in the past. But this is something different. The Coolman series is just me having fun and paying tribute to my favorite decade through silly stories, with some heart. - Sam Guydude
