After 34 years, Dynamite Entertainment is partnering with Atari to bring back its epic video game saga Swordquest in comic book form this spring. The original books were packaged with Atari 2600 games to delve further into each game's story. Atari even held a competition for players, encouraging them to unlock the mysteries within the game. Unfortunately, the fourth game in the Swordquest quadriology was never completed along with the contest as Atari succumbed to the video game industry crash of 1983.
Dynamite began it's partnership with Atari in 2014 with the comprehensive Art of Atari hardcover book being its crown jewel so far. SwordQuest will be the first ongoing comic series and pickup the story 30 years later from an original gamer POV...
Peter Case was a boy on a quest... the quest to win the prizes from Atari's Swordquest challenge! He was counting down the days to the release of the final game, AirWorld, only to be shattered when the news surfaced that it would never be released. Now Peter is an adult... and things aren't going well. The bad news is he has to move back in with his mother. The good news is she still has all of his old Atari stuff. With nothing else to look forward to, his obsession with Swordquest is reignited, in a more daring -- and fantastic -- way!
The new series will be written by Chad Bowers and Chris Sims (X-Men '92, Down Set Fight) and art by Scott Kowalchuk (Batman '66, Down Set Fight). The first issue will have an introductory price of just 25 cents! Swordquest #0 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' March 2017 Previews catalog and slated for release in May 2017. Fans can reserve copies with their local comic book retailers or purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.
