2016 has claimed another '80s icon. Alan Thicke, best known for portraying Dr. Jason Seaver on the sitcom Growing Pains, has passed away at age 69. The Ontario, Canada native leaves behind his wife Tanya and three sons. Thicke's resume in the television business spanned over 40 years including acting, producing, and writing. He even composed several themes for TV shows like Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes. Thicke was still working at the time of his death, guest starring on current sitcoms like Fuller House and Grandfathered and the upcoming feature film The Clapper.
For those of us who remember watching Growing Pains from 1987-92 and in reruns beyond, it's a sad day. Our hearts go out to his actual sons, but for those of us who loved the show over its 7 seasons, we've lost a father figure too. Back in 2006, the cast of the show got together along with writer Tim O'Donnell to reflect on the show 20 years after its initial run. Seaver Family Reunion: S'mores and More was an informal setting to talk about early memories of th show and reflect on its legacy.
