The Weekly Links: Ghostbusters Reboot Gets Cast/Release Date, Etch-A-Sketch Album Covers, Lego Scooby

Welcome to another edition of The Weekly Links, your weekly source for the best '80s content on the web! It was another busy week for me behind the scenes of RD80s, but the bit of Ghostbusting news definitely distracted me. Unless you sequestered yourself from the Internet this week, you know that the all-female Ghostbusters reboot got a release date and revealed its cast.

There were many stories and opinions released this week and here are a few:
The All-Female 'Ghostbusters' Reboot Gets a Cast! Find Out Who Will Join Melissa McCarthy - ET Online
I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan. As you saw earlier this week, I'm a building-an-Ecto1-for-my-kid's-Pinewood-Derby-race kind of fan. At first I was hesitant about an all-female cast, but the more I think about it, the cast is probably the least of my worries. We all know that the original cast can't pull it off, especially with the passing of Egon Spangler, so choosing quality actors (or actresses) to "pass the torch" is all I really need. My stipulation to get excited and potentially see in the theater will only materialize if this movie has the bell and whistles of Ghostbusters. Will it have the classic Ghostbusting equipment? Will it have the practical effects and sounds we are accustomed to? Will they have a cool means of , a fun workspace, and take calls to assist the people of New York City? Those are the details I crave and until they are revealed, the new Ghostbusters might has well be the next Michael Bay Transformers film.

My favorite video this week involved a mashup of hip hop and Muppets. Thanks to a recent post by HitFix, I found the piano-playing Rowlf singing Biz Markie's "Just a Friend". A great mashup that's only topped by the channel's previous entry of Animal, Swedish Chef, and Beaker as the Beastie Boys. Enjoy!
